H. Rap Brown was born as Hubert Brown on October 4th, 1943 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA. In the early 1960’s he became known as H. Rap Brown. In 1967 he was named chairman of SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee).

Also in 1967 he was arrested for inciting to riot at a speech he was speaking at. He was put on the FBI’s most wanted list. In 1970 Brown disappeared for 18 months. In 1971 he was arrested for an accusation that he was apart of a robbery.

He was sent to prison for 5 years. While in prison he converted to Islam. He changed his name to Jamil Abdullah al-Amin. In 1976 he opened a grocery store in Atlanta, GA. In 2000 al-Amin was going to be arrested for a failure to show up in court but had a run in with the police where a gun fight ensued and a cop was killed.

After a 4 day manhunt al-Amin was captured. In 2002 he was convicted of 13 criminal charges. He was sent to Georgia State Prison.

In 2007 he was transferred to a federal prison. He was then transferred to a supermax prison in Colorado. In 2014 he was transferred to a medical center in North Carolina.

Today he turns 73 years old and we would all like to say happy birthday Jamil Abdullah al-Amin.
