D.M.C. was born as Darryl McDaniels on May 31st, 1964 in Harlem, New York, USA. McDaniels went to high school in Manhattan. He then went to St. John’s University in Queens. In 1978 McDaniels taught himself how to DJ. He then went by the name of “Grandmaster Get High”. Later that year he formed a rap group with friends Joseph Simmons and Jason Mizell.

McDaniels decided to rap instead of DJ. He took the new name of “Easy D”. In 1981 he changed his name again to “D.M.C.”. In 1984 the now “Run D.M.C.” released their 1st album. They became very successful in the Hip Hop industry.

Run D.M.C. became the most popular Hip Hop group of all time. During this time D.M.C. developed an alcohol addiction. In 1987 Run D.M.C. wrote “Christmas in Hollis” for "A Very Special Christmas".

In 1997 D.M.C. began to slip into depression. D.M.C. was also diagnosed with spasmodic dysphonia caused by his heavy drinking.

Due to creative differences D.M.C. only appeared on 3 songs of their 2001 album “Crown Royal”. Also in 2001 D.M.C. wrote his autobiography and he found out he was adopted.

In a 2006 documentary it showed D.M.C. reuniting with his birth mother. Also in 2006 D.M.C. released “Checks, Thugs, and Rock & Roll”.

In 2008 Run D.M.C. was featured in the video game “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith”. In 2010 D.M.C. appeared with Talib Kweli, Mix Master Mike, and Ahmet Zappa on a cover of Frank Zappa's "Willie the Pimp".

In 2014 he made his own comic publishing industry. In 2015 D.M.C. was working with the band Generation Kill on an project entitled “DMC Generation Kill”.

In 2016 he appeared on Saturday Night Live.
