Birth of the Dragon (2017) 1st Reaction

“Don't think, feel....it is like a finger pointing a way to the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory!” - Bruce Lee
Image result for birth of the dragon poster

*SPOILERS*

This film was very interesting. I did like the film but I feel like it could have focused less on the student of Bruce Lee and more on Bruce Lee and Wong Jack Man. My favorite part of the film was the fight between Bruce Lee and Wong Jack Man which was very well choreographed and used many styles of shooting from martial arts films over the years. I really liked all the allusions to Bruce Lee’s films such as Enter the Dragon (1973). All in all I liked the film but I feel it focused a little bit too much on the student of Lee. I would give this film a 7/10 and would recommend this film to fans of martial arts and fans of Bruce Lee.

War For the Planet of the Apes (2017) 1st Reaction

“APES TOGETHER STRONG!” - Caesar
Image result for war for the planet of the apes poster

*SPOILERS*

This film was amazing. This is the second best “Planet of the Apes” film rivaling the original. I really loved how throughout the film Caesar is haunted by the memory of Koba from the previous film and how he is fighting becoming like him. My favorite part of the film would have to be the scene where all the apes are escaping and the second faction of humans are attacking the Alpha and Omega faction. I also loved the references to the original film such as how they named the mute girl “Nova” and how the human faction was named “Alpha and Omega” like the bomb from the second film. There is so little wrong with this film but one thing to critique was the cowardly chimp that seemed like he was just forced in there to provide comedy to lighten up the movie which doesn’t really feel right for this film. Also there was this interesting moment where Caesar and his friends find the base and they are looking at some horses through binoculars without anyone on them and then 2 humans attack them. This instance reminded me so much of how in Star Wars Episode 4 A New Hope (1977) where the same thing shot for shot happens when Luke is looking for R2D2 and finds empty Banthas through his binoculars and Tusken Raiders attack him. All in all I would give this film a 9.9/10 and would recommend it to fans of the “Planet of the Apes” franchise, sci-fi fans, action fans and drama fans.

Spiderman Homecoming (2017) 1st Reaction

“If you're nothing without the suit, then you shouldn't have it” - Iron Man
Image result for spider man homecoming poster

*SPOILERS*

I felt like a kid again going to see this film. Spiderman Homecoming (2017) was great. I would say that Tom Holland is my 2nd favorite Spiderman. My favorite part of the film was the final fight scene between the Vulture (Michael Keaton) and Spiderman (Tom Holland). I really liked Michael Keaton’s performance as the Vulture and I loved how tense the scene was where he finds out Spiderman’s identity which is even more tense than how the Green Goblin found out Spiderman’s identity in Spiderman (2002). If I was to critique anything it would be the sappy crush parts between Spiderman and the Vulture’s daughter. Overall I would give this film a 9/10. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes action films, superhero films and Marvel films.

Wonder Woman (2017) 1st Reaction

“It's about what you believe. And I believe in love. Only love will truly save the world” - Wonder Woman
Image result for wonder woman poster

*SPOILERS*

The best way to describe Wonder Woman (2017) is if you mix Captain America the First Avenger (2011) and Thor (2011) with a hint of Star Wars Episode 6 Return of the Jedi (1983) and make it great. I really liked this film especially how it mixes the period piece elements which were seen in Captain America the First Avenger (2011) with the god trying to bland in with mortals elements from Thor (2011) and this film serpasses both of those films as well. My favorite part of the film was the whole 3rd act from when Wonder Woman finds out who Ares really is up to when Ares is defeated. In this section of the film is where the hint of Star Wars Episode 6 Return of the Jedi (1983) comes in where Ares is encouraging Wonder Woman to kill Dr. Poison in the same manner as how the Emperor was encouraging Luke Skywalker to kill Darth Vader. The only thing that I didn’t like about the film was at times the CGI was a bit wonky especially during the battle on the beaches of Themyscira and some dialogue was awkwardly written but besides that it was pretty good. This is my second favorite DCEU film right under Batman V. Superman Dawn of Justice (2016).I would give this film an 8/10. I would recommend this film to every action movie fan, fan of DC and fan of comic book movies.

The Mummy (2017) 1st Reaction

“Welcome to a new world of gods and monsters” - Dr. Jekyll
Image result for the mummy 2017 poster

*SPOILERS*

This was a great start to Universal’s Dark Universe films. I really enjoyed the story and the action scenes. My favorite part of the film was the main character Nick fighting Mr. Hyde and I like this part because it shows that these series of movies will have multiple different Universal monsters in one film. I also liked the references to Dracula, the Creature From the Black Lagoon and the book of the dead from the last “Mummy” series. What I didn’t like about the film just like with every other Mummy movie is the casting of non African people in the role of Ancient Egyptians. As proven through DNA and ancient artifacts the people of Ancient Egypt were Black Africans, not European nor Arab. Besides that I liked the film and would give it a 7.5 out of 10. I recommend this film to those who love horror films and the classic Universal monsters.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 1st Reaction

“I’m Mary Poppins y’all” - Yondu
Image result for guardians of the galaxy 2 poster
*SPOILERS*

This is the craziest MCU film to date. Just about everything was crazy about this film including the visuals the dialogues and the character designs. My favorite part of the film was the fight scene between Star Lord and Ego the Living Planet. There was so much emotion in that fight and you can see the pain in Star Lord’s eyes after learning that his father killed his mother. One thing i didn't like in the film was that it was being either too funny or too emotional and that there was no in between for the most part. I also didn’t like how it occurs the same year as the first film instead of the current year. I don’t like this because how are they going to explain what the team has been doing between now and Avengers: Infinity War. I would give this film an 8 out of 10. I would recommend this to any Marvel, comic book or sci fi fan.

Kong: Skull Island 1st Reaction

“Kong’s God on the island, but the devils live below us” - Hank Marlow
Image result for kong skull island poster
*SPOILERS*
This was a great movie. This movie deviates from the normal King Kong formula. For example a director and his crew go to Skull Island find Kong, Kong falls in love with woman, they take Kong to New York City, Kong escapes and they kill him. I like how most of the movie stays on Skull Island as opposed to King Kong (2005) which spends way too much time in New York before going to the island. My favorite part of the movie is when the expedition team in the helicopters first encounter Kong. This is a great scene because how it is filmed and how it shows Kong to be an unstoppable force of nature that they couldn’t possibly destroy. One thing that really bothered me during the movie was the fact that King Kong never walked like a gorrilla. The whole movie he stands upright. I find that to be very odd that they didn’t have him walk and act more like a gorrilla which both King Kong (1933) and King Kong (2005) did great. Overall I would give this film an 8/10. I would recommend this movie to all King Kong, horror, action and Godzilla fans.

What I Think
I saw this movie in theaters when I was 13 years old. I believe this film was better than the previous Iron Man 2 (2010) but not as good as Iron Man (2008). My favorite part of the movie is where Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is confronting Loki (Tom Hiddleston) about what he has done and there was so much emotion in their fight between each other. This is my 11th favorite MCU movie as of this date, above Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor: The Dark World (2013) and The Incredible Hulk (2008).

What I Think
I didn’t see this movie in theaters when it was released for reasons I do not remeber but I wish I did. Even though it was not as good as the 1st Iron Man (2008) movie it was still good and better than The Incredible Hulk (2008). My favorite part of the movie is where Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and War Machine (Don Cheadle) fight off the drones and Whiplash (Mickey Rourke). This is my 12th favorite MCU movie as of this date above Thor: The Dark World (2013) and The Incredible Hulk (2008).

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 1st Reaction

“I'm one with the Force, and the Force is with me” - Chirrut Imwe
Image result for rogue one poster
*SPOILERS*

This was one of the best Star Wars movies since the original trilogy and even rivals Star Wars Ep. IV A New Hope. This movie had the best CGI I have ever seen in my life. The CGI Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing) and CGI Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) were so life like and if you did not know of these actors and this was the first Star Wars movie you have seen you would believe that those were actual actors and not CGI. My favorite part of the whole movie was towards the end where Darth Vader (James Earl Jones (Voice)) boarded the Rebel ship and took out everyone in his way. A very close 2nd favorite scene was when the whole Rebel fleet came to the planet to fight off the Empire. One of the only flaws I have seen with the movie was the exclusion of the opening credit crawl. I know that would be kind of redundant to have that in this movie but this is Star Wars tradition to include and opening credit crawl, but 1 Star Wars tradition that they did keep was the inclusion of C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2 (Jimmy Vee) in every Star Wars film. I would give this film a 9.9/10. I would recommend this movie to every Star Wars fan and fan of science fiction.

Doctor Strange 1st Reaction

“Dormammu, I've come to bargain!” - Doctor Strange
Image result for dr. strange poster
*SPOILERS*

This was a great movie and a great end to the superhero movies of 2016. This movie had great CGI effects and every character was portrayed perfectly for the most part. My favorite part of the movie was when Dr. Strange went to Dormammu to bargain with him and trapped him in an endless time loop and how comical it became every time Dr. Strange was killed and immediately came back saying the same thing. I was also very excited at the first after credit scene when Dr. Strange tells Thor he will help him find Odin. Even though the movie was hard to find flaws in there was something i didn’t like. The movie didn’t really explain how regular people are viewing the world while the sorcerers are fighting in public which i thought they should have explained more. I would give this movie a 9 out of 10. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes comic book movies and movies involving crazy visuals.

Suicide Squad 1st Reaction

Don't forget: we're the bad guys” - Deadshot

*SPOILERS*

This movie is crazy. The movie is very very fast pace and hardly slows down. There is so much great action scenes within the movie. There was many great effects as well. My favorite part of the movie was the fight scene between the Enchantress and the Suicide Squad towards the end of the movie. I also loved the scene where El Diablo fights Enchantress’ brother. I also liked the brief moments of Batman throughout the film. Some negatives about the movie is that since it is so fast paced they rush through the character development. For some of the characters they explained them really well such as Deadshot and Harley Quinn but some others weren't explained as well as they could have been such as Killer Croc and Slip Knot. All in all i would rate this movie a 7.5/10. I would recommend this movie to all DC fans, comic book fans and fans of the action genre.

Ghostbusters (2016) 1st Reaction

“I ain't afraid of no ghosts!” - Cab Driver

*SPOILERS*

Unlike what a certain video game critic said about not even wanting to view it, this movie was not as bad as everyone was predicting it to be. It had great effects, it had great action scenes and an interesting take on the Ghostbusters franchise as far as story. My favorite part of the movie was when the Ghostbusters were fighting the ghosts in the streets and how they used each of the new unique weapons. Another thing I liked about this movie was the variety of Ghostbuster weapons which all functioned differently. I also liked how they included cameos from the original cast of Ghostbusters (1984). Something that really hurt this movie was the subpar writing and some awkward screen cuts. The script could've been written much better to fix the dialogue. All in all i would give this movie a 7/10. I would recommend this movie to any Ghostbusters fan.
